Developer Bluehole has announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now being maintained by PUBG Corp. A brand new Bluehole subsidiary that’s dedicated entirely to the battle royale game.

In a press release from Bluehole, it states that PUBG Corp is “focused entirely on the development and global business opportunities”. The executive producer of the game, Chang Han Kim, is now the CEO or PUBG Corp. Meanwhile, Woonghee Cho will join the team as COO of the new company. He’s previously worked as the CEO of Maui Games and head of business development for Neowiz. Cho will focus on “accelerating overall business development and managing global operations.”.

Kim states that the team wanted to have the “operational efficiency that is required to support the game globally”. “This new structure allows us to be nimble as we look towards the expansion of strategic business opportunities that include the game’s potential in the esports sector and the growth of PUBG as a true global IP franchise.” explains Kim in a statement to Games Industry.

PUBG Corp will have its headquarters in South Korea. A second office will be in the USA and there are also plans for other locations in Europe and Asia. Making this a truly global company which is dedicated to the continued success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It will be easy then for the team to market the game in those regions. However, China may prove troublesome which could be why the team is in talks with Tencent, the largest game company in China. Tencent purchased the remaining equity in Riot Games last year and is even invested in a range of companies such as Epic Games and Blizzard.

The game in question, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, has sold over 13 million copies and is still in Steam Early Access. The game will be coming to Xbox One later this year however, there is still no release period for this.
